LifeThread™ is a holistic social story-telling site that aims to assist in successfully preserving a person's memories, experiences, and life aspirations. It gives importance to real life stories and establishing genuine connections between its users from all over the world.
LifeThread™ began as a result of work accomplished by Timothy Snoke while doing his master's degree in philosophy at Franciscan University in 2006. Snoke envisioned fashioning some means whereby biographical stories could be told in a way that allowed for a chronological presentation of a person's life events and simultaneously allowed for "witnesses" to participate in the story by "filling in" details from their unique perspective. As a result, Snoke came up with the concept of a Life Thread.
Mark Kutscher, Snoke's friend from the United States Naval Academy, realized the significance of the Life Thread after attending a memorial service for a fallen comrade. He understood the importance of capturing stories from a variety of people to document and commemorate the life of an individual.
Soon after, Tim Snoke and Mark Kutsher approached Brian Osborne with the idea of converting the Life Thread principle online. Brian Osborne who manages software house Tarroo based in Findlay, Ohio, USA brought to the table the technical expertise needed.
The project was initially given the name Bionima, which is the Greek term for life thread. In 2007, the first research and development stage took place to create the LifeThread™ website. Osborne began the process of applying Snoke's book into a website dedicated in capturing people's stories and devised means to present these in a more fitting manner.
LifeThread launched in SLIM Beta version on October 9, 2009.
